Tom Sachs has practiced architecture in the Washington, DC area since 1971. Before joining Oudens + Knoop, he worked with several distinguished architectural firms and was responsible for the 160-bed National Rehabilitation Hospital; the renovation of Old North, the oldest building at Georgetown University; assessment of the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine and several multi-family housing projects.
Since joining Oudens + Knoop in 1988, Mr. Sachs has been involved with the firm's projects for the University of Maryland Medical System, the Washington Hospital Center, the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, the National Institutes of Health, Martha Jefferson Hospital, the Washington Adventist Hospital, and the University of Maryland. An expert in codes, standards and regulatory requirements and in building technology and systems, Mr. Sachs co-authored Oudens + Knoop's Quality Management Program and is responsible for quality control.
Mr. Sachs is a member of the American Institute of Architects, Academy of Architecture for Health, the American Society for Healthcare Engineering, the Construction Specifications Institute, the National Fire Protection Association and the Alexandria (VA) Commission on Persons with Disabilities, which he chaired from 1995 to 1997. He is often called upon by the City of Alexandria to evaluate their projects for accessibility. He is also a past chairman of the DC Building Code Advisory Subcommittee on Accessibility for the Handicapped.
He earned a Bachelor of Architecture with honors from Case Western Reserve University in 1971 and was licensed to practice architecture in the District of Columbia in 1975.
